H.S.Pipequipment Provide Valves on Tap at Offshore Europe 2009

This years Offshore Europe saw our stand attract plenty of interest throughout the four day event, generating quality leads and networking opportunities.

Being in the unique position as the only valve stockist and distributor exhibiting, provided a steady stream of visitors onto our stand. Visitors were drawn to the diverse range of valves and actuators on display, including a 10" Valbart trunnion mounted ball valve and Rotork actuator (SIZE), the Hobbs Valve TVT range of Triple Offset Butterfly valves and their revolutionary Double Block and Bleed valves released earlier this year.

Visitors took part in our competition 'Guess the Weight' of the Bonney Forge Valves to win a framed and signed Scotland Football shirt. Those who placed an estimate were awarded HSP branded footballs and were challenged to put their own skills to the test on our mini table football.

More importantly, there was an opportunity to openly discuss our complete valve package solution with our expert staff - from assisting in the selection and technical evaluation of the ideal product through to order placement, expediting and delivery. Due to our solid relationship with leading global manufacturers, visitors to our stand had the opportunity to meet with representatives of Dresser, Maxseal, Bonney Forge and Hobbs Valve to discuss specific requirements and enquiries.

As a result of our excellent turn out of visitors we have been able to quickly respond to all our quality leads.
Hobbs Valve Join Alliances with H.S.Pipequipment

Hobbs Valve, a UK manufacturer of Leak Tight Triple Offset Butterfly Valves and pioneers of the TVT range of Butterfly Valves, have joined alliances with us.

As part of Hobbs Valve's commitment to customers in the past 3 years, they have introduced a broader stock base across the UK. With the successful growth of the company, the most efficient and effective approach to develop this concept was to consolidate territories and strengthen their association with their existing distribution stockists.

In Scotland our Aberdeen office has been awarded the responsibility of becoming one of the primary distribution companies for the Hobbs Valve product range and has committed to hold an extensive stock of Hobbs Valve TVT range of Triple Offset Butterfly Valves.

Rhys Jones, Commercial director of Hobbs Valve comments, "H.S.Pipequipment are a leading supplier to the Oil, Gas and Petrochemicals Industry and have an enormous amount of experience with our products. We know that H.S.Pipequipment are dedicated to providing the highest levels of customer support throughout Scotland".

Derrick Mackenzie General Manager of H.S.Pipequipment Aberdeen comments, "We are very proud of our relationship with a British valve manufacturer like Hobbs Valve. We continue to grow our business on the back of providing world class products and world class service. For Hobbs customers this will now involve delivery of valves from H.S.Pipequipment's stock and where more exotic materials are required, delivery through HSP's on time project management system.

In addition the Hobbs Valve range is continuously evolving. We are excited by the fact that during Offshore Europe Hobbs are launching the cryogenic, 600 & 900Lb pressure class ratings to sit along side the already successful TVT range of 150/300 and Double block & Bleed Valves all to be complemented by an increase in the dimensional size ranges of up to 42 inches."

The new formal arrangement promises to be a valuable linkage for clients delivering both an efficient and dedicated distribution link and promising significant advantages and benefits for all Hobbs Valve and our customers.
Improve Maintenance Safety with Double Block and Bleed Valves

In today's demanding oil and gas applications where the operating pressures and temperatures are increasing the need for safety and the need for assured valve shut off providing absolute and verifiable isolation, are regularly becoming the standard for critical applications.

Valves are a vital part of processes in the industry as they provide flow control and isolation. In an ideal world all valves would give 100% assured bubble tight sealing for their life span, unfortunately, for much of the industry this is not always the case. In demanding applications, service duties are rarely clean or kind to valves. The problems range from high velocities (particularly when opening valves on gas/ multi-phase flow against high differential pressure) to fluids that are entrained with foreign particles or pipelines affected by scale, corrosion, and other debris.

These problems are exacerbated where valves are protecting equipment that requires regular maintenance. In these situations plant operators demand two levels of isolation to ensure safety and integrity of the system. As a result, Double Block and Bleed (DBB) systems have been developed.

Today, there are a number of advanced technologies available to end-users, each of these offer different benefits. Through our knowledge and relationships with manufacturers, we are able to offer a range of products for DBB applications.

There are two main types of product grouping for this application, Instrument Double Block and Bleed (typically 2" and below where the application is pressure connections, chemical injection etc) and the larger and more demanding application of in line valves (typically these valves are 3" and above, used for process or equipment isolations). The main products available in the market are:
• Single Ball Valve with DBB seat sealing capabilities including double piston effects seat
• Double Ball Valve in either cartridge AP1 6D single valve dimensions or special dimensions
• Double Isolation Plug Valve
• Twin Disc Triple Offset Butterfly Valves
• Split Wedge or Expanding Gate Valves
• Through Conduit Valves

The traditional product for the industry has been the soft-seated ball valve. These valves can be vulnerable and often require regular replacement, typically with trunnion mounted metal-seated valves. However, in severe environments surfaces can deteriorate resulting in seat leakage. It is well known that the softer the seat, the easier it is to get a seal. In the case of DBB, the pressure upstream may try to assist in sealing the first valve thought he seats, though the seats are often damaged due to high differential pressure.

The first novel approach to Double Block and Bleed was to use the cavity relief on a trunnion mounted ball valve to provide verification of leakage. The problem here was that the seats were still vulnerable to damage and ingress, various designs have been utilised to overcome this problem.

In DDB ball valves the finished product can be side entry, top entry and also welded body and can be supplied in an above or sub-sea configuration. The bleed system for these valves can be (globe, gate or ball valves). The main advantages of these types of valves compared to the traditional DBB approach include space and weight saving, lower costs, fewer leak paths a number operational advantages when actuation is required.

The DIPV (Double Isolation Plug Valve) design has two separate valves in one single face-to-face body; the advantage being the second valve is completely independent to the first. It is compact, lightweight and lower cost. Furthermore, it is reliable, rugged and low maintenance. The design has typically opposed plugs to maximise the passage through the valve. The protected seats enable throttling and some multi-phase flow to occur with minimal problems and the metal to metal seats trap the sealant film to give 100% bubble tight sealing, which can be maintained over the life of the valve.

A newcomer to the market is the triple offset butterfly valve. The advantage here is the broad seal contact width that is less susceptible to leakage resulting from minor damage to the sealing service and the torque seating capabilities. Furthermore, the design includes, low initial cost, minimal maintenance, low weight and a small footprint.

Derrick Mackenzie, General Manager of H.S.Pipequipment's Aberdeen office comments, "Double Block and Bleed valves have evolved to provide greater savings in weight, space and installation times. However, the greatest savings are the reduction of leak paths to the atmosphere, which reduces the risk of potential hazards and improves maintenance safety."
H.S.Pipequipment Increases Stock Levels with Valbart Srl Trunnion Mounted Ball Valves

We have further extended our value offering by increasing our stock levels with the recent arrival of £1m of Valbart Srl (formerly Velan Srl) trunnion mounted ball valves.

The new stock ranges in sizes from 2ins to 10ins with pressure classes from 150 to 1500 bar. They have been manufactured to oil and gas industry specifications and include low temperature carbon steel (ASTM A350 LF2) bodies and internals (e.g. Balls) manufactured from 316 SS and Duplex (ASTM A182 F51) stainless steel.

Valbart Srl are recognised within the global market for producing high quality valves. Their trunnion mounted ball valves are the company's flagship products. This stock will be held at our strategically located Aberdeen warehouse allowing the products to be readily available whilst enhancing the speed and efficiency with which they can be accessed around the globe.

We have been successfully operating for 30 years and have become a streamlined supplier of valves to the global oil and gas industry. We can fulfil orders of any size or complexity, from a single valve to a multi-million pound EPC project. Our capability and strengths cover the full supply chain from assisting in the selection and technical evaluation of the ideal application through to order placement, expediting and delivery.

Derrick Mackenzie, General Manager of H.S.Pipequipment's Aberdeen office comments, "Despite the slow down in Capex investment in the oil and gas industry, HSP continues to grow on the back of operational expenditure (OPEX). Much of this operational (or MRO) spending depends on a rapid response for assistance with technical support as well as product. HSP has an established reputation for excellent technical support; the new Valbart Srl trunnion mounted ball valves will not only enhance our extensive product portfolio, but it will provide a boost to our position as a leading valve supplier to the sector."
H.S.Pipequipment Fills Gap in Global Valve Market

Robust valve procurement processes and stock holding reduces delivery times particularly for ‘specials' and urgent requirements.

At H.S.Pipequipment (HSP), we have the competitive edge by providing a service that can fill these gaps in the global market. Our capability and strength covers the full supply chain from assisting in the selection and technical evaluation of the ideal product through to order placement, expediting and delivery. We offer fast response to enquiries and can supply valves within ultra quick lead times whether it is a single valve order or a multi million pound EPC project.

The first gap that we fill is towards the end of these projects when there is the requirement for a reliable supply partner to deliver a complete valve package including short deliveries and a variety of valve types. we are able to achieve this through our extensive on-the-shelf stock holding and strong supply network. In addition, we also have the knowledge and capability to upgrade valves to meet client specifications with additional testing, NDE or painting to client specifications. We can source valves within tight deadlines and were recently called upon to supply 31 off 12inch 600 RF trunnion mounted API6D ball valves modified to comply with Saudi Aramco specifications to complete the SHY –1 Expansion Project in Saudi Arabia. We supplied the valves within 4-6 weeks, instead of the delivery time quoted by the OEM of thirty-eight weeks.

The second area of service that we provide is to help clients with ‘brown field' developments. In these situations the client will employ small EPC contractors, typically local based. These projects are generally smaller in size and at a level where it is not viable for the required valves to be outsourced to different suppliers. This is when our bespoke service can be utilised, as the variety of valves required is better suited to a supplier that can offer the complete valve package solution. We understand the market requirement for this type of contract and are able to offer a different approach by acting as a proactive and reactive supplier meeting the shorter lead times than that of the large ‘green field', EPC projects.

The final service that we offer to the global market is providing actuated valves to end users where the local manufactures agents do not have the necessary skills to provide the value added service of advising on selection and sizing.

The Middle East region is very much driven and dictated by the end users and their approved manufactures list (AML). We offer a very strong position in this market, as our stock holding and network of global manufactures are prominent on the AML's of all the major companies. Our alliances with leading valve manufacturers have resulted in the company doubling its inventory to hold over £5m of valves. The Company stocks a range of leading manufacturers including: Ball Valves, Triple Offset Butterfly Valves and Gate, Globe and Check Valves.

The strong distribution network that we have developed enables us to offer stock and support to other countries quickly where a valve manufacturer may not be able to meet deadlines.

Derrick MacKenzie General Manager of HSP says "Because of our unique inventory and skills we often work alongside manufacturers representatives in the Middle East. Our ability to package different valves provides these Reps with the ability to provide a complete service to their customers."
